MEET THE LOCAL TEAM

Alyssa Root
Cowlitz County Area Director
aroot@fca.org
Alyssa grew up in Montana where she was involved in her high school's FCA. She then went on to play college basketball. After pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy and helping people physically rehabilitate for the last 10 years, God moved her to Washington where she felt the call to get back into the FCA circle to help people rehabilitate, but in a deeper, life-altering, spiritual way. She is super passionate about cheering people on and is so excited to help in guiding coaches and athletes into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
Kane Ulrich
Cowlitz County Area Representative
kulrich@fca.org
As an athlete growing up, Kane played hockey and baseball year-round. He felt a tension between sports and faith as it seemed the two were always taking away from each other instead of complimenting one another. Kane's parents did a great job of providing spiritual food through articles, sports new testaments, and the FCA magazine. When he attended Lower Columbia College to play baseball, he had an opportunity to attend his first FCA Huddle. It was the first time in his life where he had community with people his age who were athletically focused, and mentally tough all while pursuing Christ. Kane loves the mission of FCA to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church because he is a byproduct of the mission. It’s an honor to serve on staff and help coaches and athletes recognize who they are in Christ. Sports is simply a vehicle to glorify God and expand our witness.
Jennifer Kleven
Cowlitz County Admin Assistant
jkleven@fca.org
Jennifer was introduced to FCA by her high school aged daughter. FCA changed the direction of her entire family from one focused on sports to one focused on Christ. As a child, sports were pivotal to shaping her into who she is today as they taught her to have a work ethic. She wishes FCA had been at her high school, as it would have given her an outlet to see the “bigger picture” in life and to know that while sports were important, God would fill all the voids that sports could not. It is important to Jennifer that more athletes and their families have the same opportunity to know the freedom they have in Christ.
Israel Rutherford
Cowlitz County Area Representative - All-Ability
irutherford@fca.org
Israel grew up in the church and always knew who God was, but as an athlete, his weekends were often dedicated to sports, creating a conflict between faith and athletics. In high school, Israel's baseball coach, who was involved with FCA, began to disciple him. He helped Israel realize that his identity wasn’t tied to his performance or sports but instead, rooted in being a child of God. Through his discipleship, he and his coach started a Team Huddle after practice, where he led his teammates in reading the Bible. Faith and sports were no longer in conflict for him, and instead they were united in glorifying God. After high school, Israel attended Pacific University, where he joined the FCA Huddle on campus. From there, he connected with friends involved in a club called Unified. This club brought people with and without disabilities together to play sports. He instantly fell in love with it and felt truly alive as he shared his love for sports with them. ButIsrael soon realized that something was missing... sharing Christ’s love. While playing sports together brought joy and connection, he longed to share the hope and purpose he had found in Jesus. Israel wanted them to know they are loved unconditionally by God and that their value wasn’t defined by their abilities but by who they are in Christ. Now, through FCA’s All-Ability ministry, there is the opportunity to do just that. Israel joined FCA because faith and sports are two areas where people with disabilities are often overlooked. Yet, these two areas have deeply shaped his life. Israel wants to bring them together to share his love for Christ and sports with everyone, ensuring no one is left on the sidelines.
